Consumption of drugs

The consumption of drugs is a reality that traverses the whole story. As a way to chemically escape the routine of daily life, to seek an altered state of consciousness, or as part of sacred rituals, always have used drugs. Consumption in which personal freedom plays an important role, not to mention the social control exercised by laws and traditions on the consumption of addictive substances.

In Western culture, recreational drug use is becoming a constituent part of life. And with the increase in consumption comes a complex reality: while some of those who experiment with drugs consume these substances are very few times in his life, others will become consumers of drugs in specific social / recreational, some come to abuse consumption and some of them will develop dependence or beyond, some kind of addiction to drugs. Many of these consumers will have to opt for treatment in drug rehabilitation centers to quit their addiction.

The use and abuse of drugs: drug rehab centers

It is therefore important to distinguish between use and abuse of drugs and the abuse is related to dependence on drugs but not the same. Normally, when talking about abuse we refer to the consumption of drugs which have harmful effects for the consumer. This means that the status of a drug (whether legal, like alcohol, or illegal, such as marijuana) is not necessarily a reliable indicator of damage, and that drug abuse can not be defined only in view of approval or social disapproval that this drug produces. For example, it may not be acceptable socially than a group of teenagers take a couple of beers during a game, but is in fact much closer to the abuse the entrepreneur who needs to drink two martinis at lunch and several more at home in the night, although the latter behavior can be considered as normal. In drug rehab centers will be diagnosed with the degree of dependence and what is the best treatment in each case.

In short, the abuse of drugs can be defined as an inadequate intake of addictive substances leading to a deterioration or damage to health, and is manifested if during a period of one year are given one or more of the following factors:

Consumer recurrent drug leading to a neglect of duties or responsibilities in the center of study, work or home

Regular use of drugs in dangerous situations to the physical (eg when you are driving)

Recurrent legal problems related to drug use (eg, arrests for disorderly)

Continued use of drugs despite having social or interpersonal problems caused or increased by the effects of the drug (eg physical fights).
